CONSUMER FRAUD PERPETRATED ON BUSINESSES

So, what is ‘consumer fraud?’  We talk about illegal practices in particular industries against each of us, as customers, in other sections of this website, and consumer fraud is a description that takes in most of those practices.  But does the misconduct always involve consumers—that is, individual purchasers like each of us?  Does it ever involve small companies or small businesses as the VICTIMS?

In fact, it does.  The situations we bring as class actions do NOT always involve individual clients.  Often, they involve small companies, AS THE PLAINTIFF against larger companies.  This is the common thread, whether we are suing for you, or on behalf of your small business:  someone of less economic power being cheated, overcharged, or otherwise treated unlawfully by one of greater economic power.  Consider a large bank, credit card company or government agency.  They deal not only with each of us, but also with mom and pop businesses and other small companies, every day. And they have cheated those small businesses for certain things in the past. One such example was certain fees that a major credit card company was charging businesses to use its service.  Instead of charging the fee allowed by law, it was charging over $1 BILLION dollars more than the law allowed.  Those small companies therefore banded together, just like you as a consumer might with other, individual consumers, and brought a major class action against the credit card company.  At the end of the day, the illegal practice was stopped, and mom and pop stores and other small business class members received refunds of the monies they were overcharged.

Our firm is known for handling these kinds of suits, and we have been very successful in protecting clients like your small company against predatory practices by large firms or by the government.  If you click to the page on GOVERNMENT BENEFITS, FEES OR CHARGES, you will see some of our successes, which total hundreds of millions of dollars recovered for small businesses just like yours.  (In fact, if you are in Ohio, you may have been a beneficiary of one of our lawsuits in those areas!)

If you have any questions about something being done to your small business that seems illegal, improper, or just ‘doesn’t smell right,’ please call us now.  We will review, without charge, any issue to see if you have been improperly charged, or if you are not getting what you are paying for, and qualify to get money back.  IF you are a lawyer, call us for similar questions your clients ask you from time to time.  We are available for co-counsel on these, and most other class action matters.
