Shelley Fleming
Shelley Fleming has experience in class actions, employment law, domestic relations and criminal law. She conducts in-depth research on consumer protection claims and other laws nationwide, and drafts motions and appellate briefs.
She graduated from Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law in 2006, where she was a Dean’s Scholarship recipient. She served as Associate Editor of the Law Review and was active in the Peer Advisor program. She received awards for her performance in courses on constitutional law, criminal procedure, domestic relations, and property law. She was recognized by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Shelley also holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a Master of Arts in history from Cleveland State University.
Shelley has experience working in both trial and appellate courts. She served as a Staff Attorney at the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. In that position, she had the opportunity to conduct case management conferences, pre-trials, and settlement conferences. She attended civil and criminal trials and motion hearings. She drafted orders and opinions on discovery disputes, motions to dismiss and summary judgment, and evidence issues. She also served as Judicial Attorney at the Eighth District Court of Appeals, in which she attended oral arguments and drafted opinions and memorandum on civil, criminal, probate, and domestic relations cases.
In addition to her experience working in the court system, she also has prior experience representing labor unions, handling ERISA benefit claims, litigating workplace discrimination claims, assisting in the representation of defendants charged with capital offenses, and drafting writs of habeas corpus.
Shelley is active in the community. She has been a board member with Animal Rescue Friends in Columbia Station, a non-profit animal rescue, since 2015, previously serving as Secretary and Vice President. She is active on a number of committees and volunteers in the pet food pantry.
Shelley enjoys teaching and has previously taught history and criminal justice courses. She currently teaches real estate law at Lorain County Community College.
On a Personal Note
Shelley is an animal lover and advocate, volunteering her spare time to Animal Rescue Fund. She enjoys traveling, especially to the beach and New York City. She also enjoys reading, writing, and photography.
